What the Claude Certified Associate – Foundations exam tests
CCAO-F (Claude Certified Associate – Foundations) is Anthropic's entry-level, no-code certification for professionals who use Claude in their everyday work. It validates that you can apply Claude to business and productivity tasks with minimal guidance: using built-in platform features to streamline workflows, choosing approaches that balance quality, efficiency and cost, and recognising when a task needs a Claude Developer or Architect. It is not a software developer exam.
Figures follow Anthropic's CCAO-F Exam Guide v1.0 (July 2026). Scores are scaled from 100 to 1,000. Fees, weights and policies can change, so check the current guide before you book.
Where the marks are: seven domains by weight
The biggest domain is not prompting. Judging whether Claude's answer is good enough to use carries 21% of the exam, while writing prompts carries 14%. Tile size below follows the weighting.
Output Evaluation and Validation
Checking accuracy and completeness, spotting hallucinations and bias, fact-checking, deciding when human review is needed, and adapting output for its audience.
Workflow Integration and Solution Design
Analysing requirements, using Claude for research and planning, fitting it into existing workflows, and explaining its value and limits to stakeholders.
Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use
Choosing appropriate use cases, handling data sensitivity and privacy, and following organisational AI policy.
Prompting and Task Execution
Writing effective prompts, breaking down complex requests, iterating on results and adapting the approach to the task.
Product and Model Selection
Choosing between features such as Projects, research mode and Artifacts, telling Haiku, Sonnet and Opus apart, and managing context limits.
Configuration and Knowledge Management
Setting up Projects with instructions and knowledge sources, managing connectors such as Google Drive and Gmail, and maintaining system-level instructions.
Troubleshooting and Optimization
Diagnosing prompts that underperform, adjusting from feedback and improving workflows.
Judgement calls the exam rewards
This exam tests good decisions more than memorised facts. Anthropic's sample question rationales favour these choices.
Verify Claude's claims against authoritative sources.
Trust an answer just because it sounds confident.
Match the model tier to the task.
Default to the largest model for everything.
Anonymise regulated data before you upload it.
Rely on telling the model to protect sensitive data.
Three model tiers to tell apart
The exam expects you to choose a model by balancing cost, speed and quality.
Haiku
The fastest and lowest-cost tier, suited to simple, high-volume tasks.
Sonnet
The balanced all-rounder for everyday drafting, analysis and coding.
Opus
The most capable tier, kept for complex, multi-step reasoning.
Who this exam is built for
Anthropic aims CCAO-F at professionals who use Claude as a day-to-day productivity tool. Candidates sit between casual prompt users and technical practitioners.
